How to Summarize Podcasts with AI (3 Ways, One Is Free)

A one-hour podcast episode is roughly 9,000 spoken words. If you follow five shows, that is a part-time job. AI can compress an episode into a two-minute summary that keeps the arguments, numbers, and recommendations — here are the three ways to do it, from manual to fully automatic.

Option 1: Paste a transcript into a chatbot

Most podcasts publish transcripts, and Apple Podcasts generates them automatically. Copy the transcript, paste it into Claude or ChatGPT, and ask for key claims, disagreements, and action items. This is free and works today, but it is manual: you do it per episode, and long episodes may exceed the chat context window.

Option 2: Per-episode summarizer tools

Tools like Snipd or podcast-specific summarizers give you chapter summaries and highlights inside a player app. They are good when you still want to listen and just need navigation. The limitation is the same: they work one episode at a time, inside one app, and most charge per month for unlimited use.

Option 3: An automatic digest of every show you follow

The fully-lazy option is a digest service that watches your shows’ RSS feeds, transcribes new episodes, summarizes each one, and emails you a combined brief. You set it up once and never think about it again.

FeedBrief does this for free: add your podcast feeds (plus YouTube channels, newsletters, and blogs), and every new episode shows up summarized in your daily email — with insights connected across shows, so you notice when two podcasts hit the same theme in the same week. Setup takes about two minutes at feedbrief.dev/signup.

Which should you pick?

If you summarize an episode occasionally, paste the transcript into a chatbot. If you listen actively and want highlights while listening, use a player-based tool. If you follow more shows than you can keep up with, automate it with a digest — the point of AI summarization is that you stop doing it by hand.

Turn hours of content into 5 minutes of insight.

FeedBrief is free forever — podcasts, YouTube, newsletters & blogs in one daily digest.
